Casting
a vital pre-production process for selecting a cast of actors, dancers, singers, models and other talent for a live or recorded performance.
Compositing
Widely employed in film and video motion picture production, compositing is the combining of visual elements from separate sources into single images, often to create the illusion that all those elements are parts of the same scene. (For compositing in graphic design and still photography, see Photomontage.) Live-action shooting for compositing is variously called “blue screen,” “green screen,” “chroma key,” and other names. Today, most though not all compositing is achieved through digital image manipulation.
Domain Name
A name that identifies a computer or computers on the Internet. These names appear as a component of a Web site's URL, e.g. en.wikipedia.org. This type of domain name is also called a hostname.
eCommerce
Electronic commerce, commonly known as e-commerce or eCommerce, consists of the buying and selling of products or services over the Internet. A small percentage of electronic commerce is conducted entirely electronically for virtual items such as access to premium content on a website, but most electronic commerce involves the transportation of physical items in some way. Online retailers are sometimes known as e-tailers and online retail is sometimes known as e-tail. Almost all big retailers have electronic commerce presence on the World Wide Web.
eLearning
Electronic learning or eLearning is a general term used to refer to computer-enhanced learning. It is used interchangeably in so many contexts that it is critical to be clear what one means when one speaks of 'eLearning'. In many respects, it is commonly associated with the field of advanced learning technology (ALT), which deals with both the technologies and associated methodologies in learning using networked and/or multimedia technologies.
Flash
Adobe Flash, previously called Shockwave Flash and Macromedia Flash, is a set of multimedia technologies developed and distributed first by Adobe Systems and earlier by Macromedia. Since its introduction in 1996, Flash technology has become a popular method for adding animation and interactivity to web pages; Flash is commonly used to create animation, advertisements, various web page components, to integrate video into web pages, and more recently, to develop rich Internet applications.
Multimedia
Media that utilizes a combination of different content forms. The term is used in contrast to media which only utilize traditional forms of printed or hand-produced text and still graphics. In general, multimedia includes a combination of text, audio, still images, animation, video, and interactivity content forms.
Post-production
occurs in the making of audio recordings, films/movies, photography and digital art, videos and television programs. It is the general term for all stages of production occurring after the actual recording and ending with the completed work.
Pre-production
Pre-production is the process of preparing all the elements involved in a film, commercial, or other video project.
Scripting
A screenplay or script is a written plan, authored by a screenwriter, for a film or television program. The major components of a screenplay are action and dialogue, with the "action" being "what we see happening" and "dialogue" being "what we hear".
Search Engine
Web sites or software that search the Internet for documents that contain a key word, phrase, or subject that is specified by the user to the search engine. Each engine has its own method of searching for information. Currently, the most popular search engines are Google and Yahoo.
SEO
(search engine optimization) the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via "natural" ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results, or the higher it "ranks", the more searchers will visit that site. SEO can also target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.
Streaming Video
A one-way video transmission over the Internet or a data network. It is widely used on the Web to deliver video-on-demand or a video broadcast. Unlike movie files (MPG, AVI, etc.) that are played after they are downloaded, streaming video is played within a few seconds of requesting it, and the data is not stored permanently in the computer.
Titling
A post-production technique which overlays text and graphics on a video for various purposes.
URL (uniform resource locator)
An HTTP address used by the World Wide Web to specify a certain site. This is the unique identifier, or address, of a Web page on the Internet. URL can be pronounced "you-are-ell" or "earl." It is how Web pages, FTPs, gophers, newsgroups, and even some e-mail boxes are located.
Voice-over
a production technique where a disembodied voice is broadcast live or pre-recorded in radio, television, film, theater and/or presentation.[1] The voice-over may be spoken by someone who also appears on-screen in other segments (e.g. Famke Janssen/Jean Grey in X2) or it may be performed by a specialist voice actor. Voice-over is also commonly referred to as "off camera" commentary.
